disable air bag light?

got my new cluster today with trans temp guage. as warned by another site the new cluster causes the airbag light to stay on. any idea on how to disable the light? i tried pulling the fuse on side of dash but that would cause the light to stay on anyway!

I am not aware of this problem, and alot of people have succesfully swapped out clusters with no problem.

You might want to fire an email over to JP Customs, and see if he has any ideas. If anyone knows then he would be the first choice in my book, and I think he would help you out.

On the other hand, you may be able to get the BCM reprogrammed at your dealer. The cost would probably be about $35. Or as a last resort, you could remove the lamp from the cluster.

There is something with just the 99's that make the air baf light come on. JP Customs sell special clusters for the 99's. You might want to ask him what is different about the clusters, maybe he can tell you what to do to make it turn off. Let me know what you find out. I am interested in getting the White face Escalade cluster.

i called my local GM shop, hes gonna look at it monday. he said something about checking the computer. i'll post when i know.

shorty, jpcustoms told me they have special clusters that wont make the airbag light come on. they recommended that i send my new one back and get one from them, but they dont have the one i want. im going to the dealer monday to see what they can do.

It's just a silly light, there has to be a way to make it work right.

A new ABS computer might fix it. I've seen the ABS computers on Ebay every now and then.

my dealer was unable to have the airbag light go out. on 99's the cluster will not simply change out with a 2000-2002. i will have to sell my new cluster on ebay, and get a new one from jpcustoms. i called jp today and ordered the denalli cluster. jp has something done to their '99 clusters so the airbag light wont come on.

It's too bad JP couldn't fix your cluster for you since you already had the milage programmed into it...

What cluster did you buy? You may just need to get the 99 HD cluster instead of the 2000. The HD's had the Tranny Temp gauge in the cluster. Maybe an option.

That's unfortunate that no one has been able to figure it out (at least no one who is talking).

It seems to be such a big secret, but I have a feeling it's something REAL simple like adding a pull up (or pull down) resistor.
