TSB 01-03-10-010B

My new Popular Mechanics gives the "low down" on the latest revision to this TSB.

This applies to 01-03 Silverados and Sierra's with the Allison Transmission and larger than stock tires.

"The TSB tells the dealer not to diagnose or repair any resulting problems until the tires have been replaced - at the customers expense - with ones of the original size."

I'm going on the assumption that this TSB refers to any engine/driveline problems or concerns.  I think it's a shame that going +1 or +2 in tire size would screw up a warranty claim...  :smash:

Yea I think thats just plain bull and it's the main reason A Duramax will never be parked in my drive.

I love my chevy and my 8.1 and my Ally, but this is the kind of SH!T that just fires me up and I am going to remember next time I am out to buy a new truck.  You pay 30-40K for a #### truck, If I want to put bigger tires or whatever on my truck, and 100 miles later my tranny falls out of the bottom of my truck, explain to me how the tires did that.  And like I am going to go put new tires on my #### truck just to get it fixed.  I would rather pay for the fix, and buy a Dodge later. Pisses me off.

IMO this is crap... I own a 2003 C5500 Duramax/Allison truck. This truck comes with 19.5 inch tires stock, so the tranny can run the larger sized tires. No idea why they'd tell you it can't...makes no sense whatsoever to me.

I lifted my truck and put bigger tires on it anyway, but honestly, if I had known that they were going to pull this crap I would have gotten the 6.0 and with the money I saved on the 8.1 and the ally I could have gotten a whipple for it.  Then I would have had a good old 4 speed.  Don't get me wrong I love the allison, but I really just wanted to 8.1 (I like paying for gas)....it just gets my goat

this tsb is nothing new, and it ONLY refers to the DURAMAX/ALLISON combo. they were having shifting issues and having issues with the cruise controll holding 5th gear. now they have a lock out switch that allows you to keep the truck in 4th gear when towing if wanted. i have it it works great.

i have had my truck in a couple of times for service, yes i did reinstall the stock tires, but that is no big deal.

also, there is no difference between shift points of the allison tranny with lager tires. mine shifts at the same rpm regardless of the size of the tires.

in other words: don't worry about the tsb

good luck :smash:

Yeah i have 35's on mine, and honestly I havn't really noticed a difference in shifting.  Once in a while, while it's cold it downshift kinda hard into 2nd, but that goes away once it warms up.  The TSB still gets my goat though.

I don't know how much truth there is to it, but I heard the reason they instituted this requirement is the shop equipment used to diagnos the D/A combo will only work accurately with the OEM tire size ... and with larger tires the service dept. can't troubleshoot problems correctly.

I agree, it's absurd ... but now I may keep my stock tires when I upgrade to 265's rather then selling them ... should the cold day in hexx come along where I'm forced to take the truck into the dealer.

P.S.  I need to update my sig ... have 6.0 is history ... will have new Duramax in a few days.

Does this also apply to the duramax coupled with the 6 speed?

What I read only applies to the Allison tranny.  There is no mention of the 6-speed.
