2007 Chevrolet 1/2 ton 4 door Stuck in Second Gear

118K miles, 5.3 Automatic.

 

It is "stuck" in second. It wont go into any other gear.

 

Shift range all seems appropriate

 

I just bought the truck, I have no history on it.

 

It does have a lift kit & larger tires installed. It looks like they are pretty new.

 

Anything I can do to check it out myself before I have to head to the dealer?

Put a decent scan tool on it and have a look.

2nd gear is "limp mode." The computer has detected an issue, and keeps the transmission in 2nd to minimize further damage. Scan tool or dealer visit are just about your only options.

It also has no reverse & the first shop says that is bad news, so I suppose off to GM I go.

 

Next question is will the 02 or 03 transmissions I have in parts vehicles work?

 

I have 2 wrecked suburbans with good shifting transmissions in them.

The no reverse is the clincher. The transmission needs to come out and be dissasembled/rebuilt. The chances are real low that a simple "in pan" fix is possible with the symptoms you describe.

 

I would imagine that you may have a viable transmission in one of your other parts vehicles.

Well Tech 2 says everything's in order. One last hope that a port in the valve body is plugged / restricted. Other than that, it is toast.
