5.3L with 8 speed reviews

Can anyone give any insight to the improvement from the 6 speed to the 8 speed transmission when paired with the 5.3L? A couple specific things I am curious about are if the lag when accelerating from a dead stop is improved and also if the 8 speed has fixed the problem with the transmission "getting lost" as to which gear the be in?

I believe the 8 speed greatly improves take off and I experience very little lag.

As for the transmission getting lost. The transmission and its programming have a some major issues similar to those that the 6.2L 8 speeds had.

My truck will be in the shop for a couple weeks and it's only a couple weeks old.

I drove several 2014 and 2015 5.3 6 speed setups over the last couple of years, and ultimately decided that if I were going to spend serious money on a GM twin it would have a 6.2 in it, because those setups felt under powered (mostly because I had a LML Duramax).

The 2016 5.3 with the 8 speed is alot different. It doesn't behave anything like the others. The 3.42 matched with the 8 speed is the best thing GM has done to these trucks yet.

The hold up for me was not only did I have to pony up another $2500 for the 6.2, and pay another $0.50 a gallon for fuel, but finding a 6.2 in the build I wanted was next to impossible. I know gas is at near record recent lows, and if you can pay what these trucks cost, what's a little extra? I like the 5.3/8 spd/3.42 combo. Works for me. Would I have gotten the 6.2 if this pickup which was 20% off had it? Sure, more than likely. But it wasn't a deal breaker for me.

I really like the 5.3 / 8 speed so far. Compared to my old 6-speed I think throttle response is improved and the shifts seem seamless to me. Worthwhile addition on GM's part.

I like the 5.3 with 8 speed so far too. No hunting for gears, no vibration, no lag. Granted, I've only got 700 or so miles but I'm more impressed that I was with the 5.3 with 6 which would have pushed me to the 6.2 even without the 20% off I got on my 2016 if it were the only option. Luckily, even though the 6.2 was at the top of my want to have list, I'm not disappointed I didn't get it at all.
