Ok i was looking at the tracker pro team 165 bass boat.  Nice boat.

Well after adding a 40HP motor the final price is $9330 (plus $129 for a spare tire)       This is for one of their lowest models.  Dont they come down any?  I am not draining my savings for a low end bass boat.  I might as well spend a little more (10K more ) and get a nitro.   Oh yea also there was a free boat cover offer.

 

I went to bass pro shops in gurnee mills.  Nice store (huge).

If they wont budge on the price at all, bounce their price off of a couple of other dealers. Then take the lowest price to them, and refuse any doc/delivery/prep fees.

 

Kind of like buying a truck. The cheaper the boat, the lower the profit margin...Hence less breathing room on the price.

 

But I have never bought anything where the doc/prep fees are not negotiable.

I'm not positive, but I think that Tracker has a set price that is supposed to be concrete for all dealers.  The only bargaining that you may do is on accessories, rigging, etc.  Don't take my word for it, but I think I heard that one time.

 

I was looking at a new walleye boat this spring but decided I couldn't put up $36k for a walleye boat.  I just couldn't justify it.  But it would be nice.  Maybe next year.

Tracker sets their price at the factory, there isn't any "mark-up" from the dealer.

 

Ryan - if you don't want to spend that much on the smaller boat you may want to look at the next size or two up. The Pro Team 185 comes with a 50 standard. Have you looked around at used yet?

Bunch of guys on there know alot about Tracker and Nitro. I've heard good and bad things about Gurnee Mills.

Gurnee mills was nice because they had all the models and you could touch them and see them.

 

Also when i was leaving outside they had a huge lot that said PREOWNED BOATS well i emailed them about a 175 with a 40HP i seen.  Guy told me it was a new 01 and it was the same price as the 165 WTF.  An 01 its not new its 2 yrs old

I sold my PT 175 with a 40, 2 years old, for $7500 outright. Hope you found your answers on trackerowners.com  :thumb:

i found a guy who has a 98 (99 motor and trailer with a late 98 production hull) PT 185 with a 50HP for $7995 (obo).  He is in NC.  I am getting pics tonight.

Seems we have differences in taste. I'm not saying Tracker is any top rated boat, not saying anything bad about Ranger either, but for what I could afford, new, my Tracker fit the bill. It's a boat, it runs, and I can fish out of it... close enough for me.

 

Little story for ya...

First Open tournament ever fished (last year) I fished with my wife in my Tracker. 41 boats total, mostly Rangers, Champions, Tritons, few Nitros, think maybe 2 - 3 Trackers including mine.

Wife and I came in 7th, top 10 consisted of Nitros, my Tracker, couple Tritons. Most of the big money boats spent the day flying across the lake while I fished.... they went home early, no fish. Wife and I actually had a good laugh for most of the day watching them too.

 

My cousin, who didn't fish the tournament, watched, for about an hour or so before weigh-in, all those "big money" boats pulled out with no fish, no bites... nothing.

 

Point to my story: those $35K boats got there faster, fished more areas, and went home earlier with nothing to show for their $35k  

 

Now if you want to talk a real boat, I'll race your Ranger any day with a Gambler

I was told by my dads friend (large boat dealer- large size boats not fishing boats) that trackers dont hold their resale value and rangers are the way to go.  I started looking at rangers until i seen most have a 15K price tag.  I dont about resale value as id probably keep whatever i get for a long time.
