Resetting check engine light...

Recommended Posts

Another word about investing in a code reader, my Sister in Law got a check engine light on her Toyota and it wouldn't reset so she took it to her dealer.  Cost her $84 to find out that at some time she didn't tighten the gas cap.

If there really isnt anything wrong with it you should be able to disconnect the battery for about a half hour them reconnect it and it should be off .

But make sure you know for sure nothing is wrong . one of my sensors had a prong bent and was reading low voltage so I just bent it back light was still on then un hooked the battery for a while and it went away and has yet to come back on

It is on constantly in this truck and we are sure there is nothing wrong.  Oh well, not going to waste money or very much time on it.

You should at least find a friend or as I mentioned, Autozone, and have it checked.  If the light is already on and you get a serious code, you won't know.  IMHO it's worth the effort.  Many of the sensors could be hurting fuel mileage not enough to get your attention but enough to cost big money over time.

Autozone, like mentioned above, will read it for free. There reader will tell you what set the code and they can clear it also. I bought a scanner from them for $139.00 and have used it dozens of time. Well worth the money.

Like others have stated, go get it read for free...or even take a few minutes and disconnect the battery...if it comes back, then obviously something is wrong.

I own a palm pilot, so I was able to purchase a OBDII interface cable which connects my palm to the plug under my dash.  The cable came from auterra.  I downloaded their FREE OBDII software to my PC, shot it to my palm, and I'm resetting CE lights whenever they arise!
