2016 rpm bouncing v8 mode only

I have a 2016 tahoe and it seems the engine rpm fluctuates about 2-500rpm at most any speed under light load but only in v8. Up long grades around 55 in 5th gear you can hear the load change in the exhaust note. We have had the truck about 3-4weeks and around 2,000 miles. Took to the dealer they trumped it up as v4 but in v4 truck performs as you would expect with no issues. Anyone else seeing this. Thanks for any input.

This is a new one, especially in V8 mode. That's dumb the dealer referenced V4 when you told him the issue happens in V8; take it to another dealer for starters. I frequently drive up grades at 80 mph and no fluctuation in rpms. Is the rpms the only thing you noticed?

My 2009 Silverado did this constantly. I had AFM turned off, and with the dual exhaust you could hear the RPM change. It almost sounded like it was going in and out of 4 cylinder mode, but it obviously wasn't because it was tuned out. I never did figure out why it did it.

Sometimes it seems like the power comes and goes. Wife drives truck must of the time says power surging is happening less. Idk if the truck is still "learning"! But it has also bumped at load going up steep hills low rmp v8 light throttle 2nd-3rd gear as if piping out of gear almost seems like it could stall sometimes. Don't know much about torque management. Could this be it

Also when I bought the truck it had a dead battery had to put a jump box on it. After that the raido button stoped working, would only work on steering wheel. Next day pulled - on battery for 10min all the electronics seem to be working since then.

Fluctuating rpms could be a signal of a faulty alternator. Since the alternator charges the battery, if it is faulty your battery will die again. Did the dealer run an electronics diagnostic?

Break out the invoice and see what they did, but if it is the alternator that battery recharge won't last long.

According to the dealer, transmission ok, AFM ok, and no trouble codes. I've had fluctuating rpms before on my 2nd gen Tahoe, ended up being the alternator once and clogged emissions components another time. A new vehicle would somewhat eliminate clogged emissions components, so pay attention to your alternator. Getting a new battery or jumping your battery again will end with the same result, but if the battery does die again tell the dealer to look at your alternator. Hope you get it figured out

My truck did this from the first day that I bought it so I talked to the service adviser and he said that the transmission is "Learning" my driving habits and could take up to 20k miles before it levels out? pfffft

I find it really annoying so it'll be taken care of via a BBP tune.......DONE.

So you did or didn't get a tuner yet?

If you're asking me, I have the tuner now, I've done the data logging and waiting to receive the tune from BBP.

    • Hello All!   My 2019 Colorado 3.6 LT, 4WD Crew Cab has approximately 77,500 miles and I recently began experiencing the well-known transmission shudder between about 30 and 65 mph. The problem had worsened to the point that I could no longer attribute it to road conditions - and I had decided to bring the truck to the dealer - when recently, I experienced a sudden loss of power while driving at maybe 40 MPH. Several warning lights flashed, the “Check Stabilitrack” message appeared, and the Check Engine, Stabilitrack, and Traction Control icons remained illuminated. The truck regained driving power, but it stayed in a low gear with unusually high RPMs for the speed. (limp mode?) Because I was only about two miles from home, driving slowly, I was able to make it back and run an OBD-II scan, which showed fault codes U0101, P0700, and U0100. My next trip in the truck was to drive it to the dealer the following day. That trip began normally, but after about a mile I experienced another loss of power, along with the same warning lights and the same “Check Stabilitrack” message. As before the truck remained driveable, but again operated at an abnormally high RPM-to-speed ratio and seemed stuck in a single gear. About a mile later, the dashboard lit up once more, this time displaying “Check 4WD.” Soon after that, I arrived at the dealer. I have verified that the truck still has its original factory transmission fluid, which means it has never received the corrective fluid exchange outlined in GM Technical Service Bulletin #18-NA-355.  That was Thursday of last week and I've heard nothing yet from the dealer.    According to Technical Service Bulletin #18-NA-355 and the build date of my truck, my truck should have the newer LV fluid. I've done a little research and read something about a problem with the wiring harness as well.   Anyone have an insights into this situation?  Thank you!!

    • Did you even read this article?   Even the title of the article says "U.S.-Iran Deal Doesn’t Mean a Swift Return of Oil and Gas Flows"   Remember, crude oil prices are based on FUTURE purchases by the oil companies.  Gas prices are based on FUTURE purchases by the station.  This article stated that many of the oil producing nations have to restart their processes to get the oil produced.  Then the oil has to be shipped to wherever.  And it doesn't get there overnight.  And most of that oil is not coming here. Check out this site:  https://afdc.energy.gov/data/10621   A graph will pop up to show where the US imports their oil from.  Notice that there isn't a lot of import from OPEC and Iraq.  Most of the US import comes from Canada. The US oil produces are selling their oil on the open market, which is why the US fuel costs went up.  So you're correct, the US oil companies are going to slow walk the price downward.
