2015 Chevy Silverado 4x4 5.3 no start no crank in freezing temps

I have a 2015 Chevy silverado 4x4 5.3L. The truck was recently purchased. When in freezing temperatures, the truck will not crank or turn over. All I get is the sweep on the instrument panel and error codes on the DIC. Service TCM, Service 4WD. Called on star. They provided me with several error codes U0101, U0102, U0103. As soon as temperature warms up, the truck cranks. Dealer said the codes were low voltage codes, but the batter checked fine, so they did nothing as there were no indicator lights on. This went on for a few days, then the check engine light stayed on. Brought it back to the dealer. According to them, it is a bad BCM. They also said there was documented cases where the starter was replaced on several trucks with the similar problems. Has anyone had this same problem?

I'm sure you're not the only one. Seems the '14-'15 models have been plagued with issues right out of the gate.

 

Dealer should be fixing that one, free of charge.

I always wonder why people do not just take it back for the warranty repair. Pretty sure that is exactly why they come with a warranty. This is likely either a defective battery, or a simple poor connection at battery, starter or engine side of ground cable. Temp changes make metals expand and contract, a connection may be good at 70 degrees, and then be loose at 40 degrees. Same for internals of the battery. If the OP still does not want dealer to fix it under warranty, then he can grab a battery heating blanket from his local AutoZone and see if that corrects the cold start issue. If it does, then you can sure it is not the BCM.

@jsdirt, it is currently at the dealership for warranty repairs, but they are saying a bad BCM. Can't help but feel that there is more to it. Won't know until the next freeze which may not happen here until next year.

I gotcha. I believe you're probably right. So many different systems on these new vehicles that half the time, their own factory techs can't figure them out. That leaves the consumer pretty much screwed when the warranty ends.

 

You have to start a "repair account" at your local bank these days to prepare for the inevitable. What a world ...
