Is this for Onstar?

On my 01 Tahoe I assume the little black thing next to the overhead lights is for the onstar (a mic)

Driving my moms z71 Tahoe 03' I noticed she has the same black looking mic thing.  BUT also above the drivers seat is a little screen / vent looking deal about 1.5in in diam.  Looks like its for a mic of some sort also, what is this for.

Only other thing I can think of is it for the dual climate control...some sort of sensor.  Any ideas?

On the overhead center console the OnStar mic should be driver side on the edge to the roof near the map lights/hvac controls.

1.5in....did you mean on the pillar above the dash?  Should be one on the passenger side too if it has the BOSE system, tweeters.

That's what I though.  What I can't figure out is what is the little grill thing is that is in the headliner above the driver???  The OnStar comes out of the speakers with the Bose.  So what is this thing?  I thought that might have been the OnStar mic.

The thing above the drivers seat is a temperature sensor for the auto HVAC.  It has a small fan that draws air into it.

The black thing by the overhead pod is the onstar mic.

Thanks!

Had a feeling it was for the Auto Temp deal.  THats the only thing my Tahoe does not have.  So had to figure it was for that

Thanks for sharing this info - I knew where the mic was - but that round thing above my head had me scratching my head. After reading the posts - I had to go check it out. The round grill pops right off - sure enough weird small enclosed fan - used the cap from a pen and stuck into it gently - could hear it. Yeah - I know, I'm crazy - but its got a lot of warrantly left. I just like knowing what all the parts are and how they work together. Its pretty cool the technology and gizmos they have built into them these days.
