I'm looking to replace broken outer side mirror trim on my truck. I believe I need to remove the glass to do so. Can anybody point me in the right direction on how to do so?

I know somebody has had to do this. Does the glass pop out like on the older trucks? Is there a particular trick to getting it out? Or should I come in from the mirror cap area? Any help is appreciated. Regular power mirrors, no auto fold etc..Thanks.

Are you referring to the painted area? you can just pry that off and put a new one on if the old one is damaged

No it's actually the black textured trim that goes around the mirror when looking at the mirror itself. I bought a new one, but I'm tryin to find out the safest way to get it on. I think I need to take the glass out as the trim pice goes back behind the actuator.

To remove the glass, you adjust the mirror so it is flat to the face of the housing. You then get a prying tool (I used a large, flat screwdriver) and insert in between the lower housing edge and the bottom edge of the glass. I used several layers of masking tape to protect both pieces from getting scratched. Push upward on the glass until it releases. Then adjust the mirror till the top of the glass is sticking out from the top of the housing and you should be able to pull it off after you disconnect the wires.

Worked like a charm. Disassembled fixed and reassembled mirror in 15 minutes. For those looking to replace mirrors caps without breaking the tabs, this is a good way as well.
