SRS problem - HELP!

Hello all!

I am pulling my hair out and was hoping you guys could help. I have a 2010 Silverado 1500 Z71, 5.3L, Flex. My SRS light came on and I narrowed it down to the driver door. If I start the truck and drive no issues arise - if I open the driver door with the ignition on, SRS light activates.
I read the code and got DTC B0085 symptom 00 which says Front Left Side Impact sensor. I have replaced the sensor and checked wiring back through the door and into the cab. With the new sensor light still comes on, same symptoms and cause, same codes.
I am starting to think its the SDM module but I would think I would see the light on all the time or see more codes. Maybe BCM reflash?
Any thoughts?

Don't live or drive in the Amarillo Texas area do you?

There is a TSB for your code specific to that area.

Ahhhh maybe ill try calling the dealer to see if there is any luck. I am just avoiding that as much as possible. Sounds like a lot of guess and replace at my expense when it comes to SRS

Seems to me that if it only happens with key on and opening the door the you should check the wiring in the jamb area.

Agreed and checked it all the way from the sensor though the door and jamb to the first connector inside the cab. All the protective tape etc. is in place and not chaffed so unless its chafed inside of that tape it should be good.

What are the odds of it chaffing inside of the protective tape?

So good news - I have isolated the problem. It is a broken wire within the insulator. I haven't stripped out the harness yet to check it out but long story short - door open no connection door closed connection. I will report this to the NHTSB and report back once the new harness is in and tested OK. I appreciate your guys help . For the record and future searches there is zero sign of damage outside the wire or protective cover

That type of wire problem is becoming increasingly common. Larger wires usually crack the insulation but smaller wires don't always crack. See it a lot with ABS sensor wires.

Harness replaced and symptoms are gone. No SRS light so it was a broken wire WITHIN the insulator with no signs of damage.

For future reference if anyone needs it there is a new part number.
Front door harness (w/Power locks)- Literally every single cable in the door
