Brake light problem.

What year? You have a major malfunction there. The center mounted stop light should not flash at all when locking or unlocking the door. Has it ever been hooked up to a trailer or camper? Is there a topper on it?

I bought it last summer and i don't know about its towing life I don't think so but it doesn't have a camper shell or anything, the top light in the assembly flashes when unlocking with the remote. But when in reverse, park and I guess drive the top light doesn't work.

Again, please state the year of your truck. If it is used, how many miles? This info is important.

Sorry totally forgot, it's a 2005 Chevy z71 with 152,000miles on it

Ok thanks. Let me throw out some thoughts here.

1. That top mounted center light is sometimes run on an independent circuit from the primary 2 rear brake lights so that in the event that the rear primary stop working for reasons other than burning out, there is still a brake light of some sort illuminated. I recall reading years ago that the rear two brake lights are controlled via a switch on the brake pedal, and the center was controlled based upon pressure on the brake pedal. I would make that the point where you start troubleshooting.

2. You can trace the top brake light wires starting at the assembly itself (unscrew it and make sure there are no splices or anything like that that you can see) The wire is either going to run via the headliner down the pillar and into the fuse box/brake pedal area, or it will run along the floor strips.

3. You might take a look at a chiltons manual for diagrams on that brake light and trace the circuit that way. I don't have access to one, sorry.

Hopefully there will be some more feedback from folks in here.
