Gear selector indicator is gone 2002 Sierra Denali

The gears show up on the cluster, but the indicator that surrounds which gear you are in is totally gone. What in the hell? Any ideas?

 

If it helps, the truck also seemed to throw a security issue because it will start and cut out immediately after.
