2008 Bed Rust

Recommended Posts

So my 2008 GMC Sierra bed started blistering on the driver side. I have a few good sized bubbles that will be popping through soon. Has anyone else experienced this? Is GM covering anything? When I took it to the body shop he was very surprised. Said he has never seen this from a GM truck.

No, GM won't cover it and it's quite common. Both my 2009 and 2010 have rust bubbles on the doors and bed, as well as a few of the other 2008-2010 GM trucks that guys have at my office.

Did you h ave it repaired? I dont want to pay to have the bedside replaced then have the other side start as well.

My parents 2007 did the same thing on both sides. My Dad ended up buying a whole different bed in a lot better shape. He cleaned it up underneath, sprayed it with POR15, and then painted the bed to match the truck.

I had to repair it myself. Sanded it down, got rid of the rust and repainted it.

GM pretty much said it was regular wear and tear.

Kills me because the rest of the truck looks new and I take excellent care of it. Wax it 2-3 times a year. Next truck I going to just dive and gas up.

The worst part is that my 2005 Silverado looks relatively brand new with more than double the mileage on it. I couldn't believe it when comparing them side by side over the weekend.

Yep, 2009 I traded in last fall was starting to blister on the passanger bed side.

It seems that they had bad paint prep and bad galvanization. One of my sales guys has entire pieces of paint flaking off the side of his 2010, it's insane.

The worst part was that when I was looking at upgrading awhile back, my GM dealership only offered me 7500 trade in for the crew cab due to 'my poor paint care'.

I've seen a few GMT900'S around here with rust too. Glad I traded in mine. I can't see paying almost $600 a month for a rusted truck.

As a preventative measure, I take out my tail lights and hose out the area over the wheel wells and fluid apply fluid film liberally in that area. Living in the rust belt sucks!
