wrong tailgate

I have a 2007 Silverado WT NBS with a dented tailgate. I thought a tailgate was a tailgate, so I bought a tailgate on ebay. The left (driver's) side hinge is different and it won't fit. It seems my truck doesn't have tailgate assist and the replacement tailgate I bought has tailgate assist. Is there any way I can make the new tailgate fit my truck? Any parts I would need? Anybody out there do this change? Or should I keep looking for a tailgate without the assist? Thanks for any info you can give me.

The tailgate I bought is not Ford. It is a 2007 - 2013 Chevy Silverado NBS tailgate. It is identical to the original except for the left hinge.

I don't have an answer for you but yup sounds like you indeed got yourself a tailgate with the e-z lift thing on it. :( Hopefully someone else can chime in with some answers.

Did you ever get this sorted out?

I just got my tail gate in today and I had the same issue.

You just have to pull the tension bar out.

Loosen the bolt on the bottom right.

The pry up on the rod. I used a flat head.

You will see the insert on the tailgate hinge move up. Then I used pliers and pulled it up and out.It runs the full length of the tailgate.

Now the lower left corner will mate up.

Hello, I bought the tailgate hinge from LMCTRUCK.com. It was part number 39-6736. It included the left and right hinge. It was cheaper at $24.95 for both hinges than just the left hinge at $32.95. If you need screws for the hinge, they are part #31-0357 and they are $4.95 EACH. They also will send you a free print catalog. You can probably find the screws cheaper on the internet if you search for 12338049. I bought a 3/8 inch drive star socket T-45 at my local NAPA store for$2.49 + tax. (Performance Tool W1327) I used an extension on the ratchet and slipped a pipe over the ratchet handle to give some added leverage. When the screws started coming out a little, I squirted some WD40 around them. That seemed to help. Hope this helps.
