03 Envoy Transmission

I have almost 13k on my Envoy. I've just started noticing, and so have other drivers, that my transmission makes an odd noise. When shifting from first to second it is most noticable. But you can hear it through each shifting. It sounds like a whineing noise, sorta like an older Ford Power sterring pump *whinning*.

Does any other owners of the 3 types have this problem? If so, is it normal? I am wondering if my torque converter is going out or if I'm just crazy and it's supposed to make the noise.

My 03 Hoe made a weird noise that I figured was from the Torque Converter. When I would let off on the gas completely any time between 45 - 55 mph, there would be a bit of a high-pitched whine that would lower in pitch as speed lowered. I tested it out at the same speeds in 3rd and O/D - same result. I also thought that it might have just been gear noise from the rear diff (4.10's are known to make some noise in Camaros), but since the noise went away when I got back on the gas, I wasn't so sure.

At 8,000 miles I decided to swap all the fluids out to get rid of any by-products of the break-in period that might be floating around. Tranny flush, t-case, both diffs (all GM stock fluids went back in) and I run Mobil1 oil with an M1 filter. The noise is gone - almost completely. Keeping in mind that it has been in the 100's since I had this done and the a/c has been on, but with it off, I have only heard just the slightest remains of that noise.

I know this isn't exactly what you are hearing, but this could be a place for you to start. Hope this helps.

Watch out with that noise; my uncle's 02 4x4 LT Tahoe trans went out at 35K, the dealership ended up having to do a buy back. He now has an 03.

So far he's put 15k on the 03. He just started hearing the similar noise that his 02 had started doing. Make sure you make the dealership check it and make a note of it in case it goes out right after your warranty expires you'll have something to work with.

What was the problem on that 02?

I don't worry too much much about my warranty running out - I got the 75k one. If it goes early, it will be within that time. I am going to have them check it out before I lift the truck so they don't try and pull a fast one on me and tell me that it was from the bigger tires.
