Getting a new 6.2L Long Block from the Dealer...what else should I get

In another thread, I found out I need a new 6.2L in my 2009 GMC Yukon XL Denali. It's bad news, but I am looking toward the bright side, as I will have a great truck with a new engine, ready for whatever road trips we want to throw at it.

My question is this....What else should I have the dealer do while the engine is out? For example, i am thinking I should get them to install a new water pump, new coolant hoses, and flush the radiator. Is there anything else that I should have them do, or is there anything more important that I should have them do instead? I figure I have about $500 to spend.

Sorry to hear that.

You might not like what I have to say, but the dealer is the LAST place I'd have put an engine in my vehicle, unless it was 100% free under warranty. If I wasn't going to do it myself, I'd have a local garage do it, using an engine from Jasper, or any reputable engine builder. GM apparently didn't get it right the first time, so why let them try again (unless it's free)?

Jsdirt,, you have a point. This dealer seems to have its head on straight, and they are working with the warranty company to get paid. In my mind, its not really the dealer, its the manufacturer that didn't get it right because they made the active cylinder management system too complicated. I'd love to convert it to a 6.0, or even better, a Duramax, but that would be even more expensive. So I will have to get another 6.2 and bulletproof it, as much as that is possible.

Since the dealer will have it out anyway, they are not going to charge me labor on things like hose replacement, water pump replacement, and motor mounts. Those things will STILL cost me an extra $700.

I am not enthusiastic about most vehicles made in this century. This might be the last one.

Yeah, you and me both!

That's good the place is working with you. Seems to be a rarity today. If they're going to cover it, that's definitely a smart choice. Can't beat free, or even reduced labor.
