Mag-Hytec and Cat-Back

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of putting a Mag-Hytec differential cover on my 02 GMC 2500HD 4wd and was curious if others have any experiences with them they could share. I do a fair amount of towing but also like the looks of them.

Also, I want to get a cat-back system with a little more rumble than the stock system without making the cab too noisy. My truck has the 6.0L V8. Any thoughts/recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know alot about the rear diff cover. The stock one should have a magnetic plug in it like the Mag-hyTec. The big thing about a new rear dif cover is that it should be lighter weight than the stock one and finned. I'm assuming that this one that you are talking about it probably aluminum with fins. It would be a great choice for someone that tows and wants to keep the heat out of the rear gears.

As far as the exhaust goes, I would consider keeping the stock system on your 6.0L (have you checked out the stainless pipes that are hanging there?) and just replace the muffler with a dual-in/dual-out. Just don't free it up too much, because you will need the torque in the lower RPM range when towing. Magnaflow makes a nice muffler that will give you some more sound and will go right in place of the stock muffler.

Hey Shaners, do you have the Magnaflow or know anybody that does?

Maybe a part number.

Thanks

I don't have the Magnaflow, but they have one on their website (dual/dual) that looks like it is about the right dimensions to fit in place of the stock muffler on my truck. Magnaflow mufflers have been pretty highly regarded by alot of members of our site...

Assumptions are great, but has anyone actually hooked up a temp gauge to the rear and see a real world difference?

Not to cause any problems but the proof would be in the actual data.
