Temperature guage review view mirror

Will one of these factory Temperature guage rear view mirrors work in a 99 new body 1500 z71?

 

Are they pre-wired in a 99?

I am assuming what you are trying to ask is whether or not you can install a review mirror that has a temp/compass in it in your '99. I would assume that the truck is not prewired for it, because it is much more than just a simple wire in your headliner to give it power, there also has to be sensors outside of the truck for the temp and direction. Not 100% sure, but thats my $.02!!! Good luck with it though...I have seen aftermarket kits for them.

I'm not sure if it's pre-wired, but here's something to look for:

There's a sensor mounted forward of the radiator on the supports (driver's side). That measures the ambient air temp and sends a voltage signal back to the BCM. From there, the BCM sends a signal to the mirror and then the mirror figures out what it should display. As for the compass, I think it's internal to the mirror. So if you don't have that sensor, it won't work. More importantly, unless the BCM is programmed for it, I don't think it would relay the signal correctly either.

JCWhitney has a kit ... costs around $250-$300. Not sure if it's worth the money personally, but since it came with the SLE package, I don't get a choice. Direct from GM it's $400+

I have a '99 and it was not pre-wired. I had to add the temp sensor. The mirror that I bought came with the sensor.

The power wires are tucked under the headliner. The dimming mirrors in the '99 only came with a compass. GM did not add the temp function Gentex mirrors until the 2000 model. Temp sensor wire will have to be run to the power harness and outside to the supplied temp sensor to give the temp function. If you are getting the mirror from private party, make sure you get the sensor also. The aftermarket Gentex kits come with the sensor.
