So I have already debadged and removed the side trim, but I was never a fan of chrome so decided to start working towards removing it. I painted my tow mirror caps white, window trim pieces black, and the front chrome grille inserts black. The door handles I am ordering in white and will be here soon. I also added black Duramax letters instead of the chrome.

Still would love to remove the orange in the head lights and tow mirror lights, maybe one day will get around to it.

Next will be wheels and tires!

What did you use to paint over chrome? Mind posting a quick step-by-step? TIA.

I used Kyrlon Maxx I believe it was? I can check once home.

Pulling off the whole front end just required four 10mm bolts on top (after removing the plastic tray).

Then there are 20 t15 or t20 screws holding in all of the inserts.

I removed those, scuffed up the inserts with sand paper, cleaned off any loose shavings, and then applied 3 coats.

Mirrors look good. I bought some vinyl tint and applied to my tow mirror lights, was pretty easy to do with a heat gun and I think it looks good. They look black during the day. Just an idea to get rid of the amber.

I was actually thinking of doing this to my LTZ. I like the look of the black Z71 grill but at over $400 clams I figured I'd paint the one I had and see how that looks first.

I was contemplating the other day about painting those inserts black too. Looks good, I might move forward with that now. I was thinking of putting some black vinyl on the top portion of my chrome tow mirrors, leaving the chrome strip on bottom of them. Kinda streamline them with the chrome strip on the window sill.

Sidenote, some black rims would look killer as I'm sure you know! I came from a 1500 denali, I had some 22 reps satin black on it. I really miss the rims selection of the 6 lugs.

I tried the vinyl on the tow mirrors but I was terrible at applying it to the bends and didn't get it to my liking.

I will be doing black wheels next, and I desperately need white door handles!

yeah the white handles will look great! Hell black would look good too, kinda storm trooper it. I wondered about the vinyl on those bends too. If I do it was also contemplating plasti dip so I could remove easily if I don't care for it.
