I have a 2006 gmc serria with the 5.3l v8. Ill start the truck when motor is cold and it runs and sounds smooth no ticking no weird noises...ill drive the truck and as soon as it reaches operating temperature right at 210 degrees out of no where itll start ticking like a bad lifter. Once the ticking starts at operating temp ill drive it for 5-10 minutes and the ticking goes completely away wont hear it any more drive the truck for an hour straight not one single tick. Now i turn off the truck let it sit for couple motor cold...restart the truck drive it soon it hits operating temperature it starts ticking again, drive it 5-10 mins goes completely away. It does this every time day after day after day at the exactly the same operating temp it starts ticking....im so stumped on this. If someone knows anything on this that can tell me whats going on that would be amazing. Oil pressure is right at 40psi. When the ticking starts the truck also acts like its miss firing but once the ticking stops it drives like nothing was ever wrong. No ses light nothing. Please someone help me on this.

I'll through some questions and some ideas at ya.

Is it a lifter ticking?

Truck info:

Original owner?

How many miles.

Oil changes regularly?

I think the key question is oil changes.

Maybe try an engine flush to clean ticking lifter?

The missing could be something else.

Use a scanner to see if it shows missing.

Good Luck :happysad:

2nd owner old man had it before me. 236k miles regular oil changes i do them myself. Oil is clean not black. It sound like a lifter but instead of coming or going and on start up ect. Its just starts at operating temp 210 ticks for 5 mins ago and then its gone lol. It only misses when the ticking starts. Its loud enough to hear inside the cab on the highway. Im stumped. Ran 93 fuel in it...same thing no difference.
