Shreveport Louisana Shooting

From what I have seen, it seems that the force used was quite excessive for the situation, especially since he was shot in the back. I however feel that the initial shots were justifiable.

I think they did what they had to do. I don't live far from Shreveport, and I know on sertain parts of town the cops would already be on edge (lots of gangs).

True, Shreveport/Bossier City area has some major crime problems. My sister used to live up there untile recently and some of the cruisers that would pass by her house had bullet holes in the rear fenders and c pillars. I talked to one of the cops one day and he told me how 3 guys opened up on him in a neighborhood and rittled the whole passenger side full of holes.

The story:

Shreveport, LA:

Police Cpl. Denver Ramsey and officers Michael Armstrong and Steven

Hathorn are on paid administrative leave pending a two-part

investigation, Hargrave said.

Shreveport police detectives are conducting an investigation of the

shooting, the suspect and incidents leading to the shooting. And

internal affairs is investigating the use of lethal force by the

officers and whether the officers acted appropriately.

Police say the chase began when Hudspeth was observed driving

erratically on North Market Street in Shreveport. The pursuit ended

when Hudspeth pulled the vehicle into the parking lot of a closed

Circle K at Rightway Avenue at Midway Street.

Hudspeth reportedly got out of a gray Cadillac and walked away from

the officers. After ignoring several commands to stop, Hudspeth

pointed a "chrome, shiny" object that appeared to be a gun but turned

out to be a cellular phone, police said.

Once both aspects of the investigation are completed, the case will be

turned over to Caddo district attorney's office to determine if the

shooting was justified, Hargrave said.

High speed chase, pointing gun at cops, fleeing the scene. NOT good ideas! :withstupid:

I think the use of force was justified when he would not stop walking with the gun in his hand after he turned around and waved it at them like he was not afraid to use it. The cops also have to think of public safety first! To serve and protect us! :lurk:

It appears to me that he was trying to fool the police into thinking it was a weapon by the way he he held the phone and waved it around... I would say it worked and the police responded accordingly.

From the video, it looked like a gun to me too.

d**n. How many times was he shot. Looked like about 3 or 4 from the far away oficer and 2 at point blank. Just stupid. I feel that it was one to many. The way he dropped he wasn't getting back up. What ever hapened to shooting in the legs/arms? Stay away from the vitals. Make them suffer. Not kill them. But I do agree that they were not that acting wrong. And did what they had to do. It isn't like the Amadu Diallo where all cops on the scene opened up. Plus what whas the guy thinking when the cop had the gun to his face? Ok let me run. What a dope. Should have pistol Whipped him. Well that is my take.

Stastics show that 70% (maybe more, I'm pulling this from memory) of people shot in the chest survive. Shooting people in the arms and legs is very hard and doesn't stop the situation. Increasing the risk of missing your target improves the odds of hitting someone innocent. The point of shooting that guy was not to kill him, it was to keep the incident from getting worse.

Having said that, those cops need some serious range time with their pistols. Under stressful situations, your aim will usually become worse. How they missed 50% of their shots (approximately) from that rnage is beyond me.

Was the shooting justified? It looks like a "death by cop" suicide to me. Why else would you hold a cell phone like a gun and take a shooting stance...multiple times???!?!?!?!

Its quite evident he wanted them to shoot him. Everyone knows in a police situation if you are being pulled over or ordered to stand down that you never, NEVER EVER point anything at the police. Cops are under a lot of stress and they've been taught to drop you before you drop anyone else including yourself. He got what he was asking for waving the cell phone at the cops.

Now either he wanted them to shoot him to kill him, or he was hoping to get a nice lawsuit outta the deal, looks like he got the first option.

Also why they didn't shoot to maim, most cops that I know have told me that they are taught to shoot to kill, that maiming can only make the situation worse as cops have been shot by a guy who is still armed and what not even though hes had his knee blasted out. I know one guy who is a swat sniper and to keep his status as a sniper with his squad he has to continously practice "Lights out shots" Shots that kill instantly.

Well I would've fired as well based on the circumstances. It's night- so your vision is impaired. He first runs in the car, he then gets out of the car and ignores commands to stop, he then turns around several times pointing what can easily be mistaken for a gun- shiny metallic object towards officers. He also has his hand down near his waist while walking away. Based on training and experience, I wouldn't approach a suspect I'm assuming to be armed and try to disarm him with the way this guy was acting/walking. You would be justified to shoot when he pointed the object if you can articulate that you feared for your life. As for short placement. We're taught to shoot to stop aggression and aim for center mass...Shots to the extremeties are Hollywood, not real world.

hmmm

1. running from the police

2. gets out walks away

3. pulls a silver object out of his pocket

4. holds the object like a gun

Yes it was justified that he was shot. That many times? Id question that.

Did he die?

    • This is a really late reply but I just found this thread. They won't sell the hinges. I've gone 7 rounds with them. Their solution is to buy a new cover. I'm about to buy a new cover and it won't be a Bakflip. It also won't be from realtruck.com.
    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
