Dealership level install/headlight questions

The chevy dealership that's now servicing my GMC offers a Rough Country 2" level kit and alignment for about $220.

 

Is the Rough Country about the same as all the others?

Is the price appropriate?

Will that require me to screw with my LED headlight alignment?

Well the RC 2" level is currently $50 from their website, so with GM pricing they probably get it for maybe $30-35??? So possibly around $180-190 to install and perform an alignment. Knowing it probably takes them 1.5-2 hours, maybe 3 to install the kit and perform an alignment I would say it is probably not that bad of a price. Of course, a good price is what you are willing to pay. It's your money and your truck, but if I was just looking to level my truck, $200 would be a no brainer for me considering when I first bought my GMC I asked the dealer about leveling it and they said they could do it for $600 (that's not a lie, still have the text).

 

So to answer the ?'s

1. Yes they are very common and a lot of people use them, I would not personally go higher than a 2" if it is a level kit (multiple threads on this)

2. Yes as explained above

3. Your headlight angles will actually probably improve based on the horrible angles it comes stock. Have GM align the lights afterwards if you are concerned. It doesn't take but like 15min.

As the driver of a grand am daily commuter, I can tell you that you better have your lights realigned because if you don't I will be blasting my highbeams back at you. The new headlights have a strong cutoff line and if yours are not properly aligned, they blind EVERYONE in front of you. I HATE the new lights. So many work trucks loaded down, blinding me every morning..... its pretty easy to tell when a truck is either weighted down/ leveled front end.

 

Have some common courtesy and respect for others' safety- please realign your lights.

I wasn't trying to say to level it and not touch them if they are blinding people. Just personally when I was behind numerous cars at stop lights mine was aimed at about their bumper, it was bad. So I moved mine up to about mid-high trunk on the cars, still well below the back glass to keep from blinding people, but allowed me to see better. I know every truck is different as my father has a GMC SLT and his are aimed differently than mine was. I am all about common courtesy and I don't want to blind people, hence why I aimed them where I did. I don't have a level kit, so I can't say what it will do to light alignment.

And yes, Coke, my poor use of the term "screwing" with the lights was to ensure proper projection which includes driver courtesy. I think you jumped a little hard and quick.

 

Actually the hard cut-off I have now on my LEDs is too low. It needs to be picked up a little but probably not as much as a 2" lift will provide. Thanks guys. Merry Christmas.

To touch on your last question, I had a 2" level installed at my local dealership. I was pleasantly surprised they adjusted my headlights without me asking and it was noted in the work order.

Boardmember-

no worries, I wasn't trying to accusing you of blinding oncoming traffic. That warning was more for anyone who searches for "level and headlights" and reads this in the future. I see way too many people who do not have headlights properly aligned for their vehicles, especially those who either modify the suspension or the factory lights.

 

I considered leveling mine before i put a plow on, but decided against it due to the increased wear and tear on the front end components. That is something you need to also be aware of, as there is another thread on here about losing warantee coverage for suspension and front drive train after a level kit is installed. Hopefully if your dealer does the work, they will stand behind it.
