I just got this info from the GMPartsDirect folks:

24200796 trans filter kit (used with shallow pan 59.6 mm deep)"

 

Make sure you get the right filter for your pan. On my 2000 Yukon 2wd, I have the deep pan (3" deep on most of it with a small step up to clear the exhaust at the rear side of it).

 

Unfortunately, I ordered a shallow pan kit recently, so if anyone needs a shallow pan kit, I'll let it go to you for cost (I think it was like $23 or something from P&G Chevy) plus shipping cost, which should be cheaper than they can do it.

 

I now need to order the deep pan kit since I finally figured out I have the deep pan.

OR, if you need an AC Delco aftermarket number:

TF 333 = shallow pan

TF 337 = deep pan

Try AutoZone or O'Reilly's about $24 retail.

Do those ACDelco P/Ns you just posted include the gasket, too? That would be cheaper than GMPartsDirect.com, which has the kit (filter and gasket) for about $30, or $41 with tax and S/H.

 

Are the ACDelcos good enough to use, or should I stick with the GM parts?

Yes, the AC filters mentioned have the gaskets, at least they do @ O'Reilly's.

Oh, yeah, before anyone asks, Yes, these are really AC OE parts in AC Delco boxes.

Well with all this talk about transmissions and mine needing to be done, I decided to check around on the cost since I hear so many horror stories about doing it yourself on here. The dealer wants about 175 to do the complete flush and filter change. A local gas station that does a variety of services will do it for likse 70 bucks BUT, it is only for the flush and not the filter. I just want to point this out to anyone that takes it to these type of shops to ask what you are getting.

 

I think it is important to get the filter changed. I spoke to the dealer and they recommend that the transmission be flushed about every 30,000 miles. The say the filter is good for about 75,000 to 100,000. This kind of contradicts a couple of other things I have heard in the past.

 

I'm just trying to figure if it is worth it for the dealer to change it or not. I can get the filter and gasket for under 30 and what ever the cost of the 16 quarts of fluid. Is it worth the hassle?

Even though it is a messy job, I would much prefer to do it myself and make sure it is done right. Plus, it's cheaper to do it myself. $25 for a filter, plus $40 for the fluid. I'm not planning on doing a full flush right now -- just a filter and fluid change (which will only get about 6 quarts out). I'll do the full thing in another 30K miles and put in synthetic fluid at that time. I'm at 50K miles now, so I'll do it again at 80K.

 

I'd do the full flush, but I'm a little worried about unhooking the line to the cooler and then starting the truck to pump all the fluid out -- plus, I only bought 6 quarts of fluid, so I don't have enough right now. I figure if you do half the fluid and the filter every 30K, you should be OK.

 

Anyone disagree with this approach?
