2017 1500 Towing/ my experienced MPG

So i helped a buddy yesterday tow a vehicle about 500 miles round trip and figured id give you guys the details on fuel and overall feel.

first and foremost the truck handled and towed VERY well.

2017 silverado, 5.3L -- 3.42 rear

i pulled a trailer weighing in ar 2200 and the vehicle at 3980 TOTAL WEIGHT Approx - 6,270lbs

this was from upstate NY to Delaware. numerous road changes from long flats to large inclines and declines.

i averaged 12.9mpg on the way there fully loaded hand calculates. truck ready in at 13.4

i average 15mpg on the return hand calculated with just the trailer. truck read in at 15.2

needless to say im very happy with the way it performed. however as one would figure due to high shift points i did way better WITHOUT being in tow/haul mode. though it pulled better and i used it going uphill, on declines and straight away i disabled it and seen a decent difference.

6 or 8speed? That seems to be the sweet spot for the 5.3......real good numbers, surprised actually!

id guess my average was 72-77

That's really good. I often tow distances like that but with an enclosed trailer with extra height. It's like pulling a parachute even though it's only about 3500lbs.

That's great mpg for a gas truck towing that much weight.

I bet the low trailer and aerodynamics of the car helped mpg and towing power.
