Hit N Run

Have any of you ever had to deal with a hit n run? Well, I did yesterday... This SOB in a piece of crap Ford Thunderbird rear ended me on I-45 in downtown Houston,TX. It was rush hour, and I was sitting still, well he bucks me at about 15-20 mph and gave me quite a jolt as you can imagine. :fume: I look back, and he is pulling over to the shoulder to the right of us, and as he passes me, he hits the gas and jets up the shoulder about 10 or so cars ahead of us. Right about then, it starts to rain!!! He exits onto the loop that goes around downtown, I-610. Well, since it was raining, and I was pissed off, I hit the gas to follow him, and pulled out my cell phone to call 911 to report the hit-n-run. I kept listening to see if there was any rattling or anything from the damage I sustained, I didn't hear anything. I finally got on this guys A$$ to get his license plate # to tell the 911 lady. I pulled up beside him and his 3 buddies, and tried to get them to pullover, and they exited into the ghetto. I decided at this point, he can have his fubar-d Ford. His Ford Thunderbird had nicely hit my trailer hitch, and did some sweet radiator damage, as well as bent his hood up and back about a foot and a half, it was messed up bad. He was straining inside his car to see over the damaged hood, and had smoke billowing out from under the hood. I finally made it to a gas station to assess the damage, and NO visible damage. I took the truck to my Chevy dealership, and the body shop guys saw a small crinkle in the bumper support, but nothing else they could find. :) I am still so pissed that this guy didn't stop!

Good thing you got the plate #. I just hope for your sake the car wasn't stolen so the cops can get this guy. Hit-n-run is a felony, I believe! Luckily there wasn't that much damage to your truck b/c, I'm just guessing here, he prob didn't have any insurance! Man I hate it when bad things happen to good people. :fume:

BTW- every dog has his day! He'll get his sooner or later! :) Glad you're OK!

Thanks, and I know what you mean. I was wondering if that was a felony or not...and about the stolen car thing too. The guy driving wouldn't even acknowledge me when I pulled up beside him! His buddies all looked over at me, but he wouldn't even turn his head. Too busy trying to see over the hood I guess.

Man that sucks! Glad you weren't hurt or much damage was done to your truck. Keep us posted on what the police say about the felon.

Same thing happened to my cousin and me about 10 years ago in a full size Bronco. The trailer hitch ruint a 240Z. The guy tried to run, but only got 1-2 blocks before his car quit on him. All it did to the Bronco was bend the receiver hitch to approx 10 degrees left of center.

Glad to hear that you are okay and that your truck was relatively undamaged (although I'm sure the lift kit helped out a lot).

I wouldn't have pursued him any further than you did. Hopefully the cops catch the S.O.B.

Keep us updated.

I can't believe people try to get away with something like that. :sigh:

I'm glad to hear you are ok and there was more damage to his car then yours. You are probably right...the car was either stolen or he had no insurance. Let us know what happens.

I'm in Houston too. Got to love rush hour traffic, and the uninsured/hit-and-runs. You were smart not to follow him into a neighborhood. I just graduated from UH Main (45 and cullen) and the neighboorhoods around that area are shady. You might have been dodging bullets by the time it was all said and done with. Keep us posted on what happens with the police, etc.

No word back from the police. I have 10 days to file the official report. Even though I am not making a claim on the insurance, I am filing it anyway.

we got rearended a few months ago. Hit and run. Even with his plate number they wouldnt arrest him. He admitted to it and had to write an apology note. His insurance did fix the damage ($500 very minimal for hitting us at 40 mph)

I got hit in the rear while at a stoplight about a month ago. I got out expecting to see my bumper mangled because of how hard the impact felt. When I looked at my bumper there was no damage at all. The lady that hit me had a huge hole in the bumper of her Pontiac minivan. I crawled under the truck and couldn't find any damage whatsoever.

I'm a believer in leaving the hitch in the slide now for extra protection.
