High Country Tire Size Help

Now that my OE Goodyear's are worn out, I'm looking to put a better looking tire on my truck. I may also level it down the road. I am pretty set on the BFGoodrich K02 but need help with the size.

Is anyone running the stock 275/55/20 with a leveling kit? Can I go up to a larger sidewall and not have rubbing issues at the factory height? Any pictures and suggestions would be great. I've looked at tons of pictures online but some have limited descriptions.

You should be able to run a 275/60/20 or 285/55/20 on your stock truck. And, either of those sizes will still look pretty good after you level it.

Thanks Big Whiskey. So if I go with either tire I guess I have to get a spare with matching diameter unless I want to get towed?

I'm leaning towards the 285/55r60 at this point which has a 0.4" larger diameter than my current spare. The shop I use is telling me I will risk my differential by installing these.

You know, I've heard mixed reviews on the whole spare tire thing. I've heard that as long as you drive slow, you'll be fine with a slightly smaller tire. I've also heard of guys putting the spare on the front, and moving one of the front tires to the back, if necessary. That sounds like a lot of work on the side of the road, haha.

What's the problem using a spare at the rear? Why differential problems? First time hearing this so just asking.

The factory G80 locking rear differential engages when it senses that one tire is spinning considerably faster than the other. So, in theory, running two drastically different sized tires on the rear could cause the locker to engage while driving at highway speeds....which would probably break something, haha.
