Gas Mileage Update

This is pretty good IMO. You have essentially a new version of my 06 Ext cab 4x4 5.3 w/3.42

 

I know the new ones get better mileage than the 06's and this is roughly similar to what I'd expect on a similar trip. The only difference is that I usually set my cruise at around 63-65 mph, depending. The 5-7 mph slower makes for a bit better mileage. The best I've done is about 21.5 mpg on mine for a similar length trip with a mix of flat land and moderate hills.

I'm pretty pleased with those numbers.

 

My previous 07 GMC (5.3/3.42) got 18 to 21 on a trip running 65 - 75. Once I got over 65 mpg dropped quickly.

Well, while it is advisable to not rely on the DIC mpg only, they may not be all that far off. I have done many comparisons between DIC and manually calculated and it always seems to be within 1-2 tenths. So I just rely on the DIC now and forget the working it out.

 

 

In my experience just about every vehicle I have owned company truck I drive is about 1mpg off. My F150 work truck is always 1.1mpg off, my chevy is always around 0.9, my Jeep is 0.8, and my motorcycle is 1.3mpg off on average. I am nuts about keeping up with everything on a vehicle, including gas mileage so all my vehicles gas purchases are entered into a spreadsheet. I even keep up by season what the mpg's are! These numbers are the average mpg off after several years of data on all of them so there are times when the DIC is pretty close and others not so much.
