I have a 14 silverado 1500 which had a io3 4.2 but the previous owner put a aftermarket one on which i took out and bought a OEM HU and xm tuner 4.2 off eBay but didn't realize it says io4 on the xm is will this be a PNP or a mess?

I honestly don't know, don't think anyone has tried. It runs on the MOST network. So there is VIN identifier information in the module. Odds are it won't just plug in and work. You could try it, I've never had a problem swapping modules in the global a infrastructure vehicles. I don't know why it's so frowned upon. If it won't work, it just won't work. It doesn't freeze your truck up or kill any other modules. If it requires programming, it just simply won't work is all. Try it and let us know.

You can't use the IO4 tuner with a truck configured for IO3. There is no way an IO4 tuner can generate a display image.

Also, if you're buying a used tuner that was in another vehicle, it will be VIN locked and besides the aftermarket or an engineering tool/software, there is no way to clear the VIN.
