Fuel filter

Has anyone changed there own fuel filter? I own a 2000 GMC Sierra Ext cab 2WD

I was about to do it myself until I read what it entailed in the Chilton's manual. Any way to do it without buying specialized tools, i.e. Fuel pressure guage.

One thing that I left out on that guide that hasn't been added yet, is to check the o-rings on the fuel lines. One of mine was not on there the first time I changed mine. I just bought a pack of fuel line o-rings at Advance Auto Parts and replaced it.

it was easy i didnt use any fuel pressure gauge

 

Just undid the cap loosened nuts took the old one out drank some gas put the new one in tightened nuts

Easy change...I don't know how the new ones are, but my 94's fuel filter is located under cab of driver side. Took like 30 minutes. I didn't have any line problems and your much newer one shouldn't either.

I did my own at 40K miles (01 Tahoe). Did not do the pressure release step either. Just shut it down, openned the fuel filler cap and let it sit for about a half hour. When I loosened the filter I did not encounter any pressure whatsoever. I turned it open very cautiously though to be ready and would have been able to close it back if it squirted. Maybe just got lucky? This was a piece of cake job on this vehical and I am no wizard. Just meticulous. And by the way. I swear that immediately after the filter change I detected more oomf and ease of acceleration from a stop position. Maybe my imagination again. Maybe not....

You may want to invest in a few flare nut wrenches, used on fuel lines, brakes, airconditioning nuts, etc. Avoid possibility of rounding off the corners. Only about $10 for a set of 4.
