Its difficult to do anything without the specific OBD2 codes.

Tight gas cap sound like the trouble code that indicates "small leak detected", versus "large leak detected".

There are no sensors in the gas cap.

Awhile back before I replaced anything I had a local parts store connect an analyzer but no specific code came up. I also have OnStar engine analyzer performed each month but it show nothing in the reports.

If the vehicle is telling you to tighten the gap cap, it must be detecting a leak. Either than tank wont hold pressure, or wont hold vacuum. Perhaps the fuel filler neck hose clamps are loose. Or any number of other EVAP components. Maybe the fuel pump mounting seal is leaking. Try parking it in a garage over night, and start sniffing around for fuel odors. I have solved similar problems with the garage / nose method.

There are two types of codes:

1) Solid

2) Pending

Did the parts store check for both?

Codes can come and go, based on sensor input to the ECU. You need to check them several times over the course of a week or two.

Only solid codes have the ability to trigger a check engine light.

Either type of code can come and go.

You need this:
