Encoder Motor Sensor

I replaced the encoder motor sensor (transfer case motor sensor), and was told i may need to reprogram my transfer case control module. Does anyone know if I do need to have the TCCM reprogrammed and if so will I be able to drive the truck to the dealership or will I need a mobile tech to come out? (2005 Z71 Silverado 1500)

I recently replaced an encoder on a 2005 Sierra also and also read the reprogram/re-flash the TC module advice. My TC worked flawlessly after the encoder install and saw no reason to add further expense, time or trouble.
