Standard or Automatic

I really like pulling gears in a manual, but when it come to rush hour traffic I am glad I own an automatic. At least we still have the Muncie M22 4 speed in the weekened car.

I like an automatic myself. In 2002 you could only get a manual in a 4.8L (1500) if that effects your decision any. Also in 2002 the manual drops your towing capacity 1900lbs with the V8 and drops it 1000lbs with the V6. This is for RC SB 4x4 1500 Silverados. The towing thing made me get the auto without a thought. I am not sure, this info might have changed for 2003.

Same here. I like the idea of being able to pull the gears with a load on and in the thick of things out on the trail, but you can't beat a auto in heavy traffic.

I at least get to play with the 4sp in the Impala.

I love a 5-speed in a smaller truck and cars. But, with the extended cab full size I am glad i have the auto. Also it gives you a free hand for the phone, or whatever paco does while he is driving  .

Keep in mind, a standard usually requires the use of all 4 limbs. if you are sporting a cast, things can get pretty messy.

A Manual tranny will put more power to the ground than an auto tranny, but with these trucks today, you have more than enough power to enjoy the luxury of owning a "slush box".

The 4L80E tranny in the HD line of GM trucks bangs the gears quick, and it gets even better when the tow/haul button is pushed... The 4L60E in the 1/2 tons shifts a little softer, but that can be changed with a handheld programmer...

Yup, in my town, we have no work-hour traffic, so a manual would be a hoot for driving. But, regretfully, unfortunately, I frequenty have to drive in Houston. Houston has defined work hour traffic. It is like this:

n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch

-n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch

-n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch

-n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch-n-clutch-out-clutch- to go 1/4 a mile.

Every vehicle I've owned up to this one was manual. I'm kinda enjoying the automatic! Kinda feels like I finally grew up and could afford someone to shift for me!

i prefer automatic for all the above reasons... PLUS, you have one hand free to hold onto your woman or your prefered beverage!

iagree.gif I love to go through the gears but when it comes to rush hour I'm glad I have a automatic.

I too had my share of standards, going back to a 65 GMC with the 3 on the tree. Standards are a must for any sports coupe or sedan, but I like the automatic in my truck, plus it can tow more than a std.

Daily driving in traffic and stop lights on hills make autos a God-send.

I had a manual in my S10 and it was OK, but very aggravating at times.
