Hey guys. I'm still pretty new here, so I don't know if this topic has already been covered. I am looking for clear tail lenses for an 03 GMC Sierra Sportside. I saw one on the street, but that is about all I could find. I've tried google and ebay searches, but have come up with no luck. Now, I don't mean Euros or Altezza, what I mean is...well take a look below.

This is obvoiusly for the fleet side, and I need the sport. I've heard about home made ones (and steps on how to convert the red ones to clear), but I'd rather just buy them than make them. Also, I would prefer to keep the red reflectors in, since that would help to make it street legal.

Anyone heard of where to get some?

I've got 2 friends who have been looking for those for the sport-side ever since they bought their trucks. They do not exist. None of us has ever seen them. They've emailed APC and some of the other manufacturers that make those lights and no one makes them. We've all given up on it. Good luck to you, oh, and if by any chance you do find some, PM or email me cause I'm sure my friends will want them. Later!

They make them in stepside.. there was a member here before that had a set of the plain clears for his stepside, I think he's a mod now on ls1tech.com

But just so you know the plain clears are MAJOR illegal, theres no red reflector in them and most companies can't even make them anymore without paying fines.

The plain clears with the red reflector are legal though and you can find them on ebay or maybe even stylinconcepts.com

A set of the 03 silverado tails would look better on it than the clears.

stylin' concepts only has the "euro" tail lights. It's even hard to find the ones he posted on the pic above. I'm telling you, no one makes the clear ones for the step-side bed.

As for the legal issue, they are "for offroad use only" but with a small strip of red reflector tape on the bottom of each tail light, most cops won't even think twice about it.

Heck, I used to have the clear ones on a '95 burb and even convinced a sheriff that they reflected red when you shined a light into them. And sure enough he happened to be at the right angle when he shined his flashlight into them.

Whatever you do, don't get the "euro" tail lights. They look like ricey crap and shouldn't be bought by anyone!

Well, the stepside clears DO exsist (I've seen them). The only thing that worries me is that maybe they were homemade (is that even possible?).

About the 03 Silverado tails: I would love to buy some of those, except for the stepside there is no difference between the Chevy's or GMC's.

About Euros: I've thought long and hard about those, but in the end I'd rather have stock than these. I just dont like the model they offer for the stepside.

Well, I'm looking into to see if it possible to make some clear...in the meantime I'll continue to search the net and I might check in with a local ricer shop in my town.

Thanks for your help...if anyone has any other info...it would be greatly helpful.

Oh, please don't do that. We don't want to have to ban you from the forum for doing that.

j/k

I love euro's for the fleetsides but the none of the companies did their homework when making the stepside euro's the reflector is to big and ruins the look of them

I got mine from this place when I was living in Burlington VT. The Store is Add On Accessory Outlet. Their phone number is (802) 658-0099. They are APC tails, and fit as well as the orginals. The part number I took off the box is APC No. 40.4009.TL Evidently these tails lights have been recalled, and I was unaware of that! I'm not sure if they even still make them!?!?! The APC website is www.4apc.net I believe. Or check this out, just use the info in this post to search for the part number listed above and click on get summary. Recalls

Hope this helps, but since they are recalled, they could be hard to find. But I'll sell you mine for "ONE MILLION DOLLARS" (Insert Dr. Evil voice here) WHAHAHAHAHAHHA. But seriously, good luck.

:puke: HEY, What are you sayin Elbo?

Well I guess they recalled them before my buddy Chris called which is why they said they didn't make them. Thanks for the info though, I definitely give Chris the number of that shop. Maybe they have a pair left.

    • Thanks for the info but wow, these are pricey! $100 apiece. A full set of smaller ones can be had for less that the cost of one of these. Gotta be a cheaper option out there but I have yet to find it. I don't want to use grommets as I can see leaking in my future. Now that I am looking at it, I might be able to just get the valve stem and modify the sensor to fit. Looks like I can just modify the hole a bit to adapt.
    • I recall paying $5.00/gallon in 2007 as well, although, different circumstances. A severe windstorm followed by a rare ice storm knocked out power in our region for days. We had a gas generator keeping the fridge cold and our furnace on power, and fuel stations either didn't have power, or didn't have gas because deliveries were delayed because of the storms. Driving around, we found one station that didn't have power but had a sandwich board set up out front. $5.00/gallon. They were hand-pumping it out of the underground tanks. I'm not sure that was legal or even advisable, but we needed it, and they had it. So we filled up. I was just out of college, just bought our house. Times were tight so $5.00 felt really outrageous. Local supermarkets couldn't keep stuff cold so they were basically giving food away. Fridge/freezer cases were literally being emptied out before the food expired. Never seen anything like it before, and until this day this event serves as the boilerplate for our winter storm prep.
    • Have you spilt anything on the console during ownership?  Water, coffee, soda, juice, etc.?   GM has been seeing contaminated console shift controls causing all sorts of issues.  Requires replacing the shift control.
    • If it's something they cannot figure out they can contact GM. They have a case open for noise in the suspension and my whistling drivers mirror they cant figure out how to fix.
    • Thing is gorgeous! Definitely been a LONG time since I've heard that sound!      I wouldn't call myself a purist, since I'll throw Wilwoods and power adders on anything. For me, that engine makes me cringe as a former shop owner remembering all I've been through with some of them. Plus I hate LS engines for their oiling system (MANY places to lose pressure from, especially on the AFM ones which I wouldn't be caught dead with), and the dowel-less front and rear covers - an engineering decision that irks me to no end! And I despise electronics with every fiber of my being.   My main reason for avoiding modern electronics is that when they fail, they typically leave you stranded. Tied for 1st place is also the fact that sometimes troubleshooting super-annoying problems can suck the life right out of you. I've wasted so many hours of my life chasing gremlins on those in all kinds of vehicles. I find carburetors and simple HEI style components much more suitable for keeping my sanity, lol. Different strokes for different folks. I probably get more hate from the younger crowd for sticking with my old school ways of thinking than you would for doing an LS swap.   When everything's working, they're certainly a ton of fun!
