Rear spring noise 98 Z71 P/U

I have an annoying metalic noise coming from the left rear spring on my 98 Z71.

The noise only happens on washboard or rough surfaces. I have firgured out that the bottom leaf is slapping the leaf above it causing the noise. There is an insulator

between them and an air gap....maybe 1/4" gap.

 

I was thinking about clamping the two leaves together to eliminate the gap (and the slap). I was wondering if anybody else has run into this problem. If so... how did you fix it?

Mine did that when I got it. It was covered under warrenty for me. They said it was the bracket that holds the leaf pack together. Their solution was to replace the whole leaf pack. I didn't care cause I wasn't picking up the tab. I'm sure you are looking for a cheaper fix though.
