2017 Canyon V6 transmission issue

My 2017 Canyon v6 SLE 4x4 doing the same vibration, shudder thing and getting worse and worse,, only 14000 miles. Didn’t do this until after about 12000. Trans. Heats up to as high as 150º sometimes! What I am concerned about is how much damage has this already done to the longevity of the transmission? Like going out right after warranty??? No matter how many flushes and converters you do. I am afraid of the truck now even though I do love everything else about it. Sad to say but I think the best thing is to get rid of it by haveing them take it back for another truck with a different transmission. I’m retired and I will not be able to pay for a new transmission 5-10 years down the road. Any advice would be appreciated; thanks.

I have a 2017 Canyon with 2,500 miles. Yes, I do not it stumbling a lot. I had a 2015 with the six speed and traded it due to the same problem. After re-flashing the trans ECM, still no improvement. Now, the 2017 is going in for diagnosis. It seems the software is the culprit. I hope that they have a fix.

An update to my V6 transmission issue.  I took it in for the next oil change and relayed the issue with the transmission had not gone away after the transmission flush.  Same symptoms, a little less severe.  Rather than recommending another trans flush, they said they were going to replace the torque converter and flush the fluid.  I'm sorry to report that after the new torque converter the sypmtoms are the same.  No change.  It's almost as if they did NOT change the torque converter, or the torque converter was not the issue.. That service was 2 weeks ago.  So, I'm calling Monday to talk to an advisor.  I'll ask to speak to a service manager if I don't like what I hear.  I have all my service records...  8 in all... documenting the issue that is not fixed.  I can't continue to drive a truck that struggles up hills and vibrates under a slight load on the transmission.  I'll post as necessary after my next service visit.  Thanks for all the comments/replies.

Wondering if anyone else has noticed anything wrong with their 8 speed transmissions..  Over the last 100 miles or so I have noticed what I can only describe as a cavitation coming from my transmission.  It's usually occurs when travelling in the top gear (8th) and under moderate throttle (picking up speed).  I can feel a vibration in the gas pedal, seat, and steering wheel.   I thought it might just be bad gas and the engine was hesitating a little, but that's not it.  I filled up with premium on the last tank and still having the same issue.  I use the word cavitation because it feels like the vibration you'd get in a boat when the prop hits an air pocket.. like a really fast vibration.  It's also similar to an engine bogging in a manual transmission when you're in too high a gear with too little speed.

Anyone else noticed their transmission making any similar vibrations?  I've scheduled a service visit.  Truck only has 16,000 miles so I hope there is nothing catastrophic going on.  Thanks for your input.

I recently bought a certified used 2017 Colorado with the 3.6 and 8 speed transmission doing the same thing,  Would the TSB also cover my vehicle?   Does anyone have the TSB number?

Top dog..sorry.  I don't have the TSB number.  If you Google General Motors TSB you should come across a site that will allow you to search TSB's by make/model/year.  It didn't take me long to find my TSB when searching for "2017 Canyon transmission".

I'll be BACK at the dealer in the next week.. I'm hopeful I can take the mechanic or service mge for a drive to replicate the issue.  I've had enough of my truck stumbling around town searching for the right gear and shaking all over creation.  Will post more on this issue after I talk to the dealer.  Good luck with yours.

update: Took it to the dealer another day and had the service manage ride with me to show him and have it documented that it will shake your teeth out while cursing. however when he got into the truck he said "I'll take a ride with you but I am well aware of this problem, I know what it is doing.” I'm sure he does... he then told me they have to go through "the process" and do triple flush to see if that fixes it. said it probably would but if not they would put a new torque converter in it. I said if that will for sure fix it why not just go ahead and put it in there? GM says have to do the flush first... yeah$$$ I told him even if it fixed it how much damage has already been done to the longevity of the truck? Oh he said the transmission is fine... yeah sure. I had the lemon law book laying in the console so he could see it but said nothing. He knew what that meant... this whole thing makes me sick. I have always trusted GM and now they are trying to cover up an obvious recall issue. sickens me.

Update again:

Next visit to the dealership to do the triple flush on the shuddering transmission. while I was in the lobby waiting (only a few minutes) reading my lemon law book; the service manager came out and said it looks like we have an update on fixing your transmission. now GM is saying go ahead and skip the triple flush and replace the torque converter. well well, that's what I asked about to begin with if they knew it would fix it, why not!? so  they kept it about a week to replace the torque converter. I've driven it about 700 miles so far and it is very smooth, no shaking or shuddering so far. the thing that worries me is how much damage did it do to the rest of the transmission driving it with the wrong fluid in it and the torque converter going out (metal shavings pumped throughout the transmission) what is going to happen say 50,000 miles down the road? this was to be my last new truck since I am retired and on a fixed budget. I won't have the money to pay for replacing a transmission... concerned, don’t know what I should do even if it seems like it's fixed?

I"m also skeptical that there has not been any damage caused to my transmission.  Some of the vibrations have been bad enough to rattle the change I keep in the dash tray.  I"ll post back after my next visit.

My thoughts exactly... I wont be able to afford a new transmission on my retirement fixed income 5 years down the road. This was to be my last new truck - retirement truck; cant affford another one...

    • I don't know how far back vehicles had hour meters, be it driver accessible or diag accessible but was wondering if there was any rule of thumb your shop came up with in regards to an hour limit on engine oil regardless of the miles on the oil.    I know with construction or farm equipment its almost always based on engine hours for maintenance scheduling as no other metric really applies other than a seasonal time limit that one self imposes on items like engine oil.
    • I'm not sure what to say on that mess but I will say that is an odd thing for that mechanic to speculate on as per assuming its been run out of oil a few times as the odds of that engine having instead piled up with a complete seizure would be very high if such events had actually taken place. However there is nothing saying that the oil has ever been changed although once again, what filter was on that engine as that would tell part of the story if its possible to figure out if its a factory installed filter or not. Too many items unknown and a lot of speculation, but regardless of that its one fubared mess that is mind boggling to see for a vehicle that new and its hard to imagine how it ever made it that far in life looking at the top of the engine.    His scanners, I've watched him before here and there and I'd have to say if I recall correctly that some of his scanning equipment is one or two steps up from a child's Exo Sketch 😋
    • I agree. That`s a LOT of sludge for 12,000 miles. I tossed that out here since this is an OCI thread. There`s tons of people here that do not post.   I used to work on a city fleet. That includes police cars and fire trucks. Lesson is, not to only use the odo for oci. A police car has a ton of hours on the engine for the miles it shows. And, not just idling, directing traffic. They beat on these things.   Course, since it is a Kia, they were gonna use the "100,000 mile warranty" for their OCI.😉
    • CLASS ACTION SUITS?  Does anyone know if there is already a class action suit for the paint - which was to have been fixed, changed in after the 2020 GM vehicles?  Does it look like this?    Just started 3 weeks ago - No help from GM as of yet - Dealer will not assist in speaking with GM on my behalf. Confirmed it is the paint they use along with the way the put it on that causes it to fail.  Clearly a Manufacturer's Defect.
    • That dog don't hunt. 😏   First, a 2025 with 12K on the clock AND idled for a year nonstop is false on it's face; this is 2026. You can do one or the other but not both.    Second, ENGINE HOURS are absolutely available. The rest is third grade math. Micky Mouse scanner he got out of a box of Cracker Jacks OR an ID10T error.    Third, if they ran it out of oil "Several times" that motor is boned on the first hit.    Does this guy think piling higher makes it stink less?
