How long does the 4.3 last?

My dad said he would sell me one of his 08 GMC Sierra 1500 2WD 4.3 extended cab Work Trucks for cheap. He bought them eight years ago and they have been abused by his employees and faced rough Michigan winters. It has 280k miles on the clock and I was wondering how long does the drive train last? Obviously If I do buy the truck I will replace every single fluid and filter before I start driving the truck. I don't think I have ever been inside a pickup truck before and have never driven one. What are they like to drive and live with? Would the 4.3 be up to the tast of towing small sports cars and a uhaul trailer? I live 10 minutes away from a Copart yard and frequently buy salvaged vehicles.  Would I be able to retrofit power windows and carpet as well?

Abused with 280k miles is borrowed time.  well taken care of, i've seen engines go 400,000 miles.  Trannies.. every 150,000 miles or so.

If I was your dad I'd give you the truck for a price that you wouldn't even have to worry about anything. That it only because I'd need something for the books. Otherwise I'd give it to you for free.
