Disabling Auto-Door Locks

I've read past threads stating the only way to disable the auto-door locks is to have the dealer reprogram the BCM.  Is anyone familiar with a way to disable the locks on my 99 new body style in a manner similar to disabling the auto-headlights, or any other way for that manner?  The stealers here in Tulsa all want to charge me $40 to do it.  The truck is not under warrenty.

For clarification, I'm not looking for a way to get the locks to "unlock" automatically when I stop, put it in park, take the key out, etc.

I want to disable the auto locking feature.  I don't want the truck to "automatically" lock me in when I hit 15 mph.

Thanks.

I just disabled my auto lock feature on my new HD. If you have the manual for your truck it describes how to do this. It 's no big deal, but my manual is not handy to me now. If no one else has posted how it's done I'll check back tommorrow.

In '99 you cannot change the rolling locks.  Only mid 2000 and up.  I had a '99 and hated them.  Mostly because they didn't unlock when you killed the ignition.  I think somebody screwed up in the design there.

Yep, dealer has to disable them on the '99's and some early '00's.  ???

Since I was driving a Ford in 99 I wouldn't have known about the door locks. My 2000 GMC could be programmed and my new HD is programmed. The best thing is that someone had the right answer.

Rick, was the truck out of warranty when you bought it?  If so, you may try asking the dealer if they would cover it and tell them you would have had them disabled when you got it if you had known they were able to be programmed the way you want it.  You never know, they just may do it.  The worst they could do is say no.  ???

Truck was out of warranty and couldn't shame the "stealer" into comping me on it.  Ponied up the $37.50 this past weekend and they are now disabled.  Thanks for the input.

make sure that if you ever take it in for service and they have to re-program the computer that they don't over write the disable.  I had a friend that paid to have the door locks disabled on his '99.  Then he had some work done and they had to re-program the computer.  It overwrote what he paid $50 to disable.  Then, they wanted to re-charge him the $50 to re-disable the feature again.  After fighting through to the service manager he finally got it back the way he wanted it but it took some talking.

Just thought I would give you a heads up.  Glad the truck is the way you want it now.

Good point woyster_00z71.  Rick, make sure you hold on to that receipt in case that would happen to you in the future, that way you can show them you paid to have them disabled, and they messed it up.  If that would ever happen.  They should have a record of it on their computers as well, but it's always good to hold on to those receipts.  :D

Which dealer did you use? I might go get mine done too.

South Pointe Chevy in Tulsa.  Any Chevy/GMC dealer will do it for you.  Prices here ranged from $37.50 to $45.00 (1/2 hour labor).  A few phone calls can save you a few bucks.  Try to shame them into doing it free.  It takes them less than 3 minutes to do it.
