08 vmax replacement

hello, I have a 2008 vortec max with the L76 engine. The motor just dropped a valve seat and there seems to be a fair bit of metal in the cylinder. I'm pondering the idea of replacing the engine with a cheaper 5.3 and I'm curious how interchangeable the motors are. sensors, etc. How much of a variance is there between the early model 5.3 and later.  Thanks for any feedback

Can you just swap the head, or is the cylinder/piston damaged?

You'll miss the extra power of that 6.0, unless you are planning on adding power to the 5.3.  Frankly, I still wish I had gotten an 08 V-max or 09 6.2L, mostly because of the additional power, and partly because of the AFM crap on the 5.3L.

the shop I had the diagnoses at scoped it, and thought there was some damage. I'll know tomorrow when I pull the head. It would be nice if I can get away with just getting the head done. but I also don't know if there was any damage to the cam etc. As far as the swap I'm more less planning for worse case and the truck isn't to special to justify the cost of another L76 if the 5.3 is a viable option

    May not find a rig that new in a junk yard, but if ya can - its $150 or less for the whole motor, with a 30 day warranty.
