Dodge Dakota to be D/C'ed??

Caught this article at another forum:

If this turns out to be true, it'll be a big mistake for Dodge. The mid-size Dakota has a loyal following and a niche market. I've owned two Dakotas myself and I liked them both. I'll be sorry to see them go. Dodge will be left with that oogly-@ss Ram and that little funny-looking thing they are thinking about designing..... ???

I have trouble believing that the dakota would be discontinued. It sold over 18,000 units through february, which, while not great and down from last year, is still not bad. I could see the possibility of adding a smaller truck to the lineup, but the trend seems to be going towards bigger.

If they cancel it before the Chevy Colorado comes out, that'll leave just toyota in the mid-size truck market....

I work with two guys that have Dakotas. One also has an Explorer and thinks the Dakota is heaven compared to all the problems with the Explorer. The other is a dyed-in-the-wool rice buyer (Hondas & Nissans) and is very pleased with the room in his new Dakota compared to other compact trucks. It was also the biggest truck his wife felt comfortable driving.

notice that it said "based on rumors". dodge would not do that, the dakota sells too well, and the M80 would be too much of a gamble

I seriously seriously seriously seriously seriously doubt they discontinue it. I've learned not to trust those BS sites like that. Dodge makes bookoos of money off of the Dakotas every year and they're smart enough to keep it going (even though they were stupid enough to design the new Ram...but then...GM let Chevy sell the Avalanche and Pontiac the Aztec??). Anywho...I don't think it'll be disappearing anytime soon. We owned one for 10 years and it is still running strong. In fact, I am going to be buying one this summer. They're great trucks.
