Borla s-type vs pro Xs NBS help

I've got an 05 Z71 CC 5.3 and I'm looking to upgrade the muffler. Local shop has both s-type and pro Xs in stock. I want a more aggressive sound that is definitely louder than stock but not something obnoxious that will kill my kids ears when cruising and allows me to hear the radio without cranking it all the way up. All I can find online are NNBS videos from outside the cab and the videos don't really do mufflers justice. I was wondering in these older trucks if the s-type is too loud or pro Xs is too quiet in the cab from y'all's experience.

Thanks in advance.

And yes I've searched the forums with not much luck on the NBS trucks. Mostly NNBS up to 2016s online with videos and testimonials.

Lots of options. I would go with the remote cutout, but limit the valve movement, so that it wont open all the way when activated. Then you can tune the noise decibel level to the exact level you want. Flip a switch and its back to OEM.

Or, you could do this:

In my experimental days I tried different exhaust set ups. I use to travel a lot and good sounding exhaust after a couple hours on the freeway would sound like a drone. One set up I used on a few trucks was I put a y pipe in front of the muffler and run it all the way to the back or in front of the rear wheel. I put a flange on it and have a block off plate ready to block it when I wanted quite. Just took a few minutes to quiet it down. Another was supper trapp adjustable mufflers.

Any experience with either borla setup? I don't drive long distances. If it's a long trip we take my wife's cx-5. But I had an 09 that droned like crazy. It didn't bother me too much but with kids and they louder cab of the older truck I want to avoid that. The borla mufflers claim no drone at all but I was curious to know about the s-type sound in the cab. I'm leaning towards that one unless is just stupid loud inside.

I’ve been fortunate to know a good exhaust guy from the beginning. One of the biggest causes of drone is the equalizer or cross over pipe on dual exhaust. Back in the day with 2-21/4 inch exhaust and no cross over had the best sounding exhaust in my opinion. Single loud exhaust causes drone because of no offset exhaust, same as duals with cross over, it’s equalized by design. The other problem recently thrown into the mix is cylinder deactivation, I’ve only heard one exhaust that seemed to eliminate that, the stock one. If you hear the exhaust your going to hear the transfer. I personally had a magaflo muffler put in place of stock and tuned out the cylinder deactivation.

I'm going to be going single in and out in the stock location. I don't have cylinder deactivation on my 05 so that should help. (I had it on my 09 and at 2500 rpm the drone was BAD). I would end up reving the engine or slowing down to get out of that rpm range. I don't mind noise I just don't want it to be overwhelming.

Anyone have experience with the borla mufflers on NBS trucks?

I have recently bought the borla s type dual rear exit and it is definitely a switch up from my last set up which was a 3inch cat back with an off brand muffler  that the exhaust shop sold. A street max I believe? But the borla is definitely quite a bit quieter can’t hear it when cruising on the highway at all! But when you get on it you can sure tell it is there, just wish borla would have made the atak muffler for 07-13 gm trucks

If you don't have headers go with the louder muffler. Exhaust manifolds and cats really quiet down. I had a corsa sport exhaust on my 05 gto and it was pretty tame. Then i put headers on it and it sounded like a race car when you got on it. I couldn't believe how much louder the headers made it.
