Citrol Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Hi I have been searching around looking for an answer to this question with no luck. I have bed lights installed and I want to tap into the red/purple stripe wire under the dash for constant 12v power so I can use the lights with the ignition off. I want to install a switch for them so that they are not on all the time, would I just splice the positive wire from the switch to the 12v constant power and ground the negative or would I need to put some type of relay? If anyone has any other better options for this process I’m open to that aswell. Already have a lightbar going to my trailer harness so I can’t tap into that. Thanks for any help!
Jdkno Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 There is a terminal under driver's side dash under the cover right above left foot that has constant 12v. A small spade terminal is all you need to tap it. I can't remember the terminal number but a quick search in the running board light thread has a picture of it that I used to tap that for the fade module for my step lights. Yes you will need a relay, your switch will activate the relay and the power for the lights will come from the battery, through the relay, to the lights.
