Front Air Dam

Recommended Posts

After my install of the PA Body lift I am not happy with the notching of the factory front airdam to accomodate the tow hooks. Does anyone make an aftermarket airdam for a 2002 Silverado with a body lift? :flag:

Did you not get any bumper relocation brackets?

The relocation brackets are why he is having the problem, the bumper goes up but the hooks don't. On my 99 Tahoe I just got a a 2wd airdam since it doesn't have holes in it, but I'm not sure what options you have.

I left my tow hook in the stock location and just did some minor trimming on the air dam and a little more than minor trimming of the hoops, or frame horns.

You can see teh hoop part in teh last pic, next to my friends knee, and may be able to tell where I cut that part of the frame horn off, which meant I only had to trim a very small amount in the upper, inner part of the tow hook openings. But I still had to cut a notch in the air dam to make room for the actual tow hooks themselves.

You do have a couple other options.

A) swap sides and then flip them over, so they are angling up instead of down. If you do this you'll have to redrill a new hole for the vertically installed bolt because they won''t line up like in the original configureation.

B) ditch the stock hooks and install a set of aftermarket hooks. the knd that are just a simple hook with a flat mounting surface. you could use one of the holes on one of the sides of the frame, but you would need to drill a new hole for the second bolt. This method looks good. Y2KZ71 did his like this.

Good luck. :chevy:

  • 2 weeks later...

I had just put on a body lift also. I got a pair of HD tow hooks which don't drop down. They fit the stock hole in the air dam, but I have drill a new hole in the hook in the back and put spacers because hook isn;t as wide. My problem now is that the air dam looks like s@#* because I cut out for the frame horn. Now I have go back and cut those back and get a new airdam.

My question is would I have any trouble putting a air dam of a Z71 tahoe/sub on my Silverado.

Thanks

For you guys with the body lifts that are cutting your air dams...why couldn't you just flip the tow hooks up side down? Just from looking at the pics..that looks like that would work?

There are two bolts that hold the 1500 series tow hooks to the frame, one horizontally, one vertically. The vertical one is not centered on the frame/tow hook, so when they are flipped the holes don't line up.
