I had a carfax account last month. It will only tell you when and were it was bought, how it was registered, whether or not it passed emissions inspections, any major accidents (where a salvage title was issued), and the mileage that the vehicle had when each report was posted.

The GM computer records for service will only have WARRANTY SERVICE repair items.

The normal service records (oil changes, alignments and all non-Warranty service) is kept by the individual dealer(s) where the previous owner(s) had work done.

I found this out recently as I had someone run my Vin # through the GM computer, I thought That I would get a FULL service history. But The Person who ran it explained the procsdure to me.

Car Fax can only give you information that is obtained through public records (state registration etc.) and repair facilities (accident repairs) , insurance companys that perticipate with car-fax in reporting.

It is not 100% full proof and accurate. There have been some reports by vehicle owners that had minor repairs done and the repair facility sent wrong information to car-fax. The people reporting sais they were having a hard time selling their vehicles due to the information & getting car-fax to change the information even after sending verified reports from the repair facility to car-fax is next to inpossible to get car-fax to change. This was from one of the Jeep forums I visit.

Remember the information is still uploaded by humans to computers and we all make mistakes. Man I have a weekend hangover!
