Two piece rear dust shields

Can someone walk me through removing the rear dust shields on a 2002 1500 4x4 5.3. W/ the rear calipers and replacing them with the “2 piece” Dorman shield?

From what I understand in a old post it can be done without removing the axle.

They are toast and I previously ran out of time and patience to address it after I replaced my calipers and rotor.

Have you changed the rear diff fluid lately?  Are your axle seals leaking? How many miles on the truck and have you ever done rear wheel bearings? I’ve done both types...the one piece on my old 04 and the two piece on my dads 03.

I prefer the one piece ones ones even though there’s more involved.

You have to remove the axles to get the one piece backing plates installed behind the hub adapter. On the two piece, you can remove the hub bolts and there’s enough room to sneak them in and snap them together.

If you plan on keeping the truck, do one piece. The two piece ones on my dads truck need replacing already.

2 piece - You bascailly remove the brakes (including e brake cables), remove the hub bolts, rip out the old backing plate, install new ones, and reinstall everything. You don’t have to touch the rear end.

1 piece - remove diff cover, remove locking pin bolt, remove locking pin, push axles towards center of diff, remove c clips, remove axles. Remove hub adapter remove backing plate, reinstall.
