Ok, who's the idiot that took all the wires off? oh, yah that was me in my just got off working mids stupor.

Finally doing a tuneup on the truck, needed cap and rotor something fierce. The wires were really kicking my butt and the rotor was rusted onto the shaft...

Soooo. before I could convince myself that it was a bad idea, I had taken off all the plug wires.

I can get close, the truck will run, backfiring the whole time.... One of the wires was rusty, so I had a landmark for where to start the wires again, but in that configuration following the firing sequence, the truck won't idle for anything.

I was hoping that someone could point me to a diagram that might help or at least ease the frustration of all this.

Well, the firing order if it's a v8 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

V6 is 1-5-3-6-2-4

Take the #1 spark plug out (frt. drvr. side)

Stick a finger or thumb over the spark plug hole and have someone crank the engine over a little at a time until you feel air come out of the hole. This assures you are on compression stroke. Next, get your timing mark on the crankshaft lined up with the timing tab so it is on TDC.

Now you can put your wires back on, lining up cyl. #1 plug wire with the rotor. The wires go clockwise around the cap.

Hope this helps. :D

Thanks for the quick reply... I tried a couple more times, then did some more desperation research.

found a diagram that laid things out very nicely.

it also didn't hurt that I found that two of the plug wires crossed when they hid behind the valve cover.... :D

it's all better now, just have to finish up the tuneup another day.... already lost too much sleep time today. ahh the cost of progress.

Thanks again
