Heat on but compressor on?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

05 Silverado 1500 5.3 LM7 Automatic climate control CJ2 I believe

Whenever I turn the heat on, I noticed that the compressor clutch kicks on. However, vents inside cab still blow hot for heat and cold when I switch it to AC.

Anyone have same issue?

I'm going to say it is functioning as it should. The AC compressor runs at certain settings of the HVAC system to dehumidify the air. See your owners manual on the Recirculation function as well as the section on Defogging and Defrosting to name a couple of instances when it should cycle.

This. Pretty much every vehicle for forever will engage the AC compressor when HVAC is set to Defrost/ Defog, or any combo (floor/ defog). This is to help dehumidify the air to keep the windows from fogging over.
