Standard gearing, VIN decoder?

Recommended Posts

Call me crazy, but I am looking for a truck with 3.08 gears. Suburban, Tahoe, etc. with the 6-speed (09-14).

I have been using the chevroletforum VIN decoder on all the available options, and one thing I am seeing is that any truck with the 2-speed transfer case has 3.42 gears. Was this standard equipment with the 2-speed t-case?

Some trucks show like below, where they list 3 different ratios. I'm wondering if I can even trust the decoder at all? Most of the stinkin' salesmen and other private sellers have no idea what an axle ratio or an RPO code is. Is there another way I can find the gear ratios for certain?

Thanks for any input.

For posterity, I’m pretty sure that 3.42 gears are standard on 4x4 trucks. I did not find a single confirmed 3.08 4x4.

I ended up buying a 2009 Tahoe LTZ.
