about a week ago my truck started idling really ruff. and it has also started throwing soot out of the exhaust. the only thing i can think of is that the injector cleaner i put in messed up my cat. does anyone have any ideas.

If it's a 92 Blazer, and you have a 350...It has throttle body injection, not fuel injection. Unless you or a previous owner installed it.

I would start with electrical (plugs, wires, distributor etc) if you are idling rough...My 1st guess would be the distributor....It can cause your timing to get fubar and cause the smoke, pinging, bad idle etc.

Is it throwing an SES light when you hammer it?

You gotta share a little more :sigh::)

Go get your code read. Autozone, and most of the others will do it for free. Just punch it a couple of times in order to get the light to come on before you get there, and leave it running until they read the code.

If it's laying down, blowing smoke, and you are throwing an SES light, my first guess would be your anti-knock sensor. Passenger side, down by the starter. $5.00 part. :)

my truck is still shacking. i havent touched the sensors yet. but do you think it could be the cat. my truck has been spitting out some soot. i dont know i just need to find some time to fix my truck

The anti-knock sensor reads the air coming out of the exhaust, and sends this to the computer for analysis.

If it's malfuntioning, it tells the computer bad things, and f'd-up stuff starts happening because the data the computer is basing your fuel/air/timing/etc on is erroneous.

Thats the best my pea brain can explain it. I'm no ASE expert.

You could also be right in that your cat could be bad.

I still say to go to a parts store with a code reader (call in advance, most perform this for free), and show up at the store with the SES light ON, and let them hook up. They will most likely be able to tell you right off if it's a sensor (O2, anti-knock, etc).

Just out of curiosity, have you checked your PCV valve lately?

One other thought occured to me. Right after cleaning the fuel injectors on my S-10 Blazer one time it started running with the shakes. Turned out a piece of carbon had come loose and got stuck in the EGR.

Hope you get this solved soon.

Try some Fuel Injector cleaner and DRUM it out on a highway free of police and cars! Sounds like its got dirty injectors to me. The alternative I can think of is have it torn apart and cleaned and perhaps an injector is bad.

You may be getting bad gas as well. Try a dose of higher octane at another station.
