Dougie86 Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 I had a message on my dash stating that the inner tailgate was open. Even though it was closed I was unable to open my main tailgate because the bcm thinks the smaller gate is opened. Then I bring it to the dealer after 2 days not working and as soon as they push the button, it worked. It has happened to me again since and I just keep opening and closing the inner tailgate til the main one starts responding. It might have to do with cold winter temperatures but still cant find it yet. Need to figure out how the computer knows that the gate it closed or open.
Dougie86 Posted February 20, 2019 Author Posted February 20, 2019 Anybody in the cold Canadian climates have this issue yet?

Vasa1 Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Hey, up here in Winnipeg Mb. Stupid cold here. Had the same thing happen to me. Message said top gate open but wasn’t. Took it in and they found a faulty latch on right side of top gate.
HONDABBQ Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Happened to me about a week ago. I’m in Winnipeg too. I opened the top gat, and bottom wouldn’t open. Closed top gate then bottom still wouldn’t open. My hand slipped when I closed to top gate and I’m assuming it never went up all the way and it wasn’t recognized that ur was closed but it was. It wasn’t slammed close but just softly latched. My fix was just pushing on the top gate and everything went back to normal. Been fine since.
Vasa1 Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Hondabbq, that sounds familiar. Were u ever on trackshare?

I got my 19 in October. Been flawless for the most part. Minor issue with park assist sensor after washing, but that’s it. Seems like the update issues are now fixed so I’ll be booking it in to get those rectified soon.
Rdubya Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 I apologize if someone else on this topic has already commented about a solution. I believe my friend and I have found the problem due to trial and error after we loaded a snowblower onto my truck and could not lower the tailgate. We believe the problem lies within the inner tailgate which is the smaller section of the tailgate on top that is able to fall down but the main gate will not. The inner tailgate has latch points on the right and on the left. if you take a hairdryer or heat gun and heat up those two areas you will have a fix to your problem. After being in cold temperature with snow and ice I believe what is happening is that condensation or moisture gets in those areas around the sensor and either refreezes or frosts over causing an error in the computer thinking that the tailgate is open. Four times now we have tried the solution and it works like a charm every time. I bet you will see the correlation between dry days with no snow or ice and days that have it causing the error. I hope this helps everyone understand what’s going on or find a way to explain it to a technician.
